“You must learn to conceal your special gift and harness it until the time of the gathering.

When only a few of us are left, we will feel an irresistible pull towards a far away land…to fight for the price”.

Leeds International Beer Festival HomeBrew Competition:

Following the success of our very first amateur brewers competition in 2013 and in the spirit of Scottish and English relations and the upcoming referendum later this year we have decided to go for an England v Scotland homebrewing battle for the best in the UK. The winner from each country will get their beer brewed professionally and go head to head at the 3rd Leeds International Beer Festival taking place 4 – 7 September 2014 – see details below.

So here are the rules:

1) Brew anything you want as long as it’s under 5.1% (no all brett IPAs)- think of the breweries kit you will be working with.
2) You can use any hops from UK and the USA – nowhere else!
5) Please submit either 3x330ml or 3x500ml per entry.
6) Each entry will be subject to a fee of £10.00

7) Please send all bottles and sheet with the recipe (and your details) to: Maria Terron/Darren Potter, Leeds International Beer festival,  Home Brewing Competition, Leeds Town Hall, The Headrow, Leeds, LS1 3AD

8) Be ready to travel to the assigned breweries for a brewday to brew up your beer for the festival.
9) Be ready to come up to the festival and enjoy it.

Deadline for entries is 25 July 2014

Now for the exciting bit – the prize!!

Our friends at Weird Beard, one of the most exciting breweries in the UK and amongst the very best new breweries in the world have agreed to brew the winning English homebrew.

Alechemy Brewery, a great  brewery that erupted on to the scene in 2011 and newcomer to this year’s festival will brew the winning Scottish entry. Head Brewer and Director James Davies, started as a homebrewer 18 years ago!

The winning beers from each country will go head to head in front of our grand jury on the first day of the Leeds International Beer Festival and the overall winner will be announced during the evening session. Both beers will be highlighted in the festival programme and available to the public to experience.

So, get brewing for the ultimate prize!
